Pedestrian Crossing of Cycleways

BWA welcomes the introduction of segregated cycleways in new road schemes. But we would like to see a consistent approach to how pedestrian crossing points of cycleways are implemented.

In recent plans for new road schemes in the city centre, some crossings are due have zebra markings, but some are not. We have submitted a report to the Council pointing out the issue and urging that pedestrian crossings of cycleways should be implemented in a legible and consistent way.

We also point out that the current government guide to implementing cycle infrastructure, LTN 1/20, says that where there is a pedestrian crossing of a two-way cycle track, or where cycle flow is fast or frequent, crossings should be either zebra marked or signal controlled.
