BWA has responded to two planning applications associated with the further development of the Ashton Gate Stadium site.
The first is a full application (21/03165/F) for redevelopment next to Ashton Gate Stadium to provide sports and conference facilitites, hotel, offices, a multi-storey car park and residential units with a 14-storey tower block. The second is an outline application (21/03166/P) for a housing development proposed for greenbelt land adjacent to the Metrobus route near to Long Ashton Park & Ride. The profit from the second development is intended to finance the first development.
We have responded to each application, highlighting the need for better walking and public transport access to the expanded Stadium site, which already suffers from excessive and obstructive car parking in the surrounding area when events are being held there.
In our response to the Stadium site proposals, we welcome the proposed improved pedestrian permeability of the site, but suggest the development should be required to support better bus and rail connections.
In our response to the Longmoor Village proposals, we believe approval should be conditional on providing a more direct pedestrian connection between.the Stadium site and Long Ashton Park & Ride.
