A consultation on improvements to the A4 Portway is just finishing. It proposes 24-hour inbound and outbound bus lanes rather than the segregated walking and cycling route that had been suggested in the early enagagement.
BWA has responded to the latest consultation with a list of the issues that we believe should be addressed as part of this scheme.
We are not convinced that the need for an outbound bus lane outweighs the value of a segregated cycleway.
We raise specific issues that affect the safety of and accessibility requirements for pedestrians.
In addition, we believe the Portway should be seen as a recreational destination within easy reach of the city which deserves to be made more accessible.
