BWA has responded to the recently closed Bristol City Council consultation on their Parks and Green Spaces Strategy. This proposes an approach to managing Bristol’s parks and green spaces for the next 20 years. The strategy was last updated in 2008.
In our response, though welcoming the overall vision, we question the proposed priorities.
We believe health and well-being for residents of the city should be the overarching aim, with meaningful targets for how this can be improved. It will be important to maintain open space provision per person as the predicted population of the city increases.
We were also disappointed to see no mention of walking in the strategy, although it is by far the most popular informal recreational activity and one that can contribute to everyones health and well-being.
