Soapworks development

A planning application (20/01150/F) for redevelopment around the old Soapworks / Gardiner Haskins building proposes a new pedestrian route through the site from Old Bread Street to New Thomas Street. However, the new tall surrounding buildings may make it a windy sunless canyon. The existing pedestrian route between Temple Meads and Old Market along Slees Lane adjoins the site.

BWA welcomes the potential for a new pedestrian route through the proposed redevelopment of the Soapworks site. However, we have objected to the current proposal because we believe the new pedestrian environment will be compromised by the proposed height of the surrounding buildings and also wish to see improvements to the existing pedestrian route running to the west of the site.
